| 83 years old Brazilian rosewood B&S, ALPINE Spruce top: 640mm radiused fingerboard, armrest, Lattice Braced, violin tie. Hardshell case included. MAGNIFICENT ! |
This
amazing project was motivated by the fabulous cuts of Italian Alpine Spruce
and fantastic tap tone of this Northern Italian variety of Spruce.
Italian Alpine spruce grows at over 3,500 meters in very cold environment. This slows the growth making the fibers tight and musically very resonant. A beautiful range of sound with a fast response. Clear trebles and a reverberating bass that makes the whole body vibrate. The sound on this Spruce top is fantastic. Still, it takes approximately 6 months for Alpine spruce to fully break in. I can only wonder what she will sound like then. The set of Brazilian rosewood is one of the oldest I ever had. It's been air drying for over 83 years! It is originally from Minas (Brazil) and it's been air drying from the times when World War 1 was still fresh in everyone's memory. Beautiful tight grain, not flashy but sober and with an unmatched tap tone. The Alpine spruce that Pierre sent me from Val D'Aosta was the just top for such a masterpiece. I decorated the top with a handmade Russian rosette with Roses pattern and the most delicate marquetry for the decoration. Figured Brazilian rosewood for the armrest and the violin tie, two elements I am very attached to since they allow the guitar to sing A LOT more freely achieving tone colors otherwise impossible. Cavatina was easy to play on the 640 radiused action. I stress that I do not use the rest stroke at any time during the performance of the piece and I am amazed at the fabulous separation of voices and rich mid-tones. A one in million guitars ! |
