"The
Lynx"
Brazilian
rosewood Back and sides, Western redcedar top : Marvelous sound,
fast-easy action ! 640mm, radius, armrest
In
all these years I must have seen hundreds of sets of Brazilian rosewood
and it does not cease to surprise me that a new pattern will eventually
show up that has a unique striping, flame and coloring that sets it apart
from all the rest.
This is the
case with this set from Belo Horizonte (Brazil), It has the striping you'd
expect on a wild cat or a Lynx. The brown background color shares the palette
of colors with brown, beige, green, yellow nd even some pink. Stunning
to say the least. The grain is very tight and the tap tone superb. I am
not sure how long ago the tree was cut, but the set has aged (air dried)
for at least 18 years in my supplier's Joao's warehouse. The wood had been
drying in other deposits for an unknown number of years. . Tap tone was
phenomenal from the very first moment. I I matched the back and sides with
a tight grained Western redcedar top. The resulting mixture of the depth
and power of Brazilian rose with the sweetness of cedar makes you fall
in love with this guitar from the very first notes you play on her. Romance
is enhanced by the superlative sound that brings the melody in center stage
whilst creating a wonderful bassy background made of human-like sounds
and a colorful mid-range full of harmonics throughout about by the 3rd
and 4th strings. I decorated the bridge with parts of the flame of the
back and sides, used hand crafted French marquetry. The radius on the ebony
fingerboard added to the 640mm scale makes the guitar easy
to play and incredibly responsive. A true jewel !
