Fantastic
sound and looks !!!
Here I present to you the NON PLUS ULTRA Doble tapa contreras style coupled with a lattice style bracing. The mixture of the 2 systems is simply astonishing. The sound of the guitar becomes COMPLETE in every sense of the word. The deep resonating sound that derives from Brazilian rosewood is complemented by the crisp and clear sounds that the lattice generates. The combination creates THE PERFECT GUITAR SOUND ! The Doble tapa (Contreras style) was first introduced by Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and which reached its peak in the 80s. The word "Tapa" in Spanish translates to top in English but it refers to the back of the instrument. Therefore, Contreras doble tapa is actually a "Double back". I improved on the system by using a second back of Brazilian rosewood instead of Cedar and using lighter built pine transverse struts. The second consecutive back is 0.8 mm thick and the main back is 1.8 mm thick. Due to my geographical location, Brazilian rosewood is much cheaper to get than it would have been for Contreras. That is why I can afford to offer a doble tapa made entirely with Brazilian rosewood. This delivers a great response and much sturdiness to the back and sides which in turn enhances the full vibration to the top. The result is a full sound rich with innumerable harmonics and an AMAZING presence. I recommend you add the lower bout soundport. The guitar is engineered to work as it is but I know that the add on will enhance the sound even more. I made the
recording of Romance in the presence of the builder and my son. The faces
on both of them was worth an extra picture in the gallery. The sound on
this guitar is simply ASTOUNDING !! Keep in mind that all the videos I
post are made a few minutes after the guitar left the shop... in other
words, it's a " new born" voice you are hearing. Based on my experience
with my buyers I can imagine what she'll sound in a few months. What I
know is that this babe ranks among the BEST we ever built and I think we
are definitely going to build more of these tremendous guitars because
they are as good as a guitar can get. A swift 640mm radiused action makes
playing fun. Low strings action to make every passage easy.

The lattice is a concept based on the A frame of grand pianos. The back and sides are kept rigid by means of a sturdy A shaped frame and the top is thinned as much as possible to allow the top to vibrate generously. As you see from the picture above, the thinned area is approximately 1.2 mm thick (VS 2-2.5 in the standard thinning techniques). Lattice delivers a lot of volume (approximately 21 dbs more) and wonderfully clear trebles.
Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The hand embossed leather case
is a work of art on its own right. Built by one of a handful of very talented
leather embossers in Latin America.
