This
gorgeous set of Sri Lankan Macassar Ebony delivered all the beauty of sound
and looks that I envisioned the minute I tapped toned it after receiving
it from Asia in late April. It is wonderfully striped in colors resembling
the fur on a German Shepherd. The ton goes from pitch black to Gray all
the way to blonde. Stunning to say the least. I used a combination of African
Padauk and African Bubinga to enhance her lines and double topped her with
Cedar. Cedar is the main top and so is the second top halfway between the
Macassar back and the main cedar top. I used a unique piece if African
Walnut burl to make the rosette and detail the headstock, bridge and violin
tie. The African Bubinga gives elegance and marks her waist marvelously.
The sound is full, generous and with a terrific punch. Macassar is in the
same league as Blackwood and it shows in the outstanding punch. The double
top is responsible for the top notch sustain and projection. Playing Cavatina
was easy and natural and the hands immediately feel at home as I play the
epic melody. The cut makes the reach for the higher notes even more simple
and you'll know you have the perfect cutaway from the first notes you produce
on her...
