Tasmanian Blackwood B&S, Sinker Redwood burl top
Tasmanian Blackwood B&S, Double top Contreras style V1. Sinker Redwood burl top, Thai Amboina Burl rosette and detailings on the Ebony violin tie and bridge. Ziricote and Snakewood bindings. 16" radiused Ebony fingerboard. 640mm fret spacing. Embossed leather case included.  GORGEOUS !!
The Sharpei dog is, in my opinion, the most tender creature in the entire world. Maybe it's because I am on the lookout for a dog since my children have been asking for one, but the thing is that the first thing that crossed my mind when I looked at the finished face of this Tasmanian Blackwood beauty was the curled up skin of this amazing dog. The Redwood seems to curl up like skin between the bridge and the violin tie. It is simply amazing especially since you will not feel any curl when you pass your hand on the finish. It is an amazing effect created by the wood grain. These sets I have been using for my limited edition guitars are extremely rare. I only have a few left and each one talks of the wonders of nature and the marvels that share this planet we live in.
The sound she puts out in Asturias is BEAUTIFUL, deep and clear. She has a well defined bass line and shines beautifully when the first second and third strings are played in the fast passage towards the end of the Asturias clip. She's tremendously easy to play with a low action and a slim neck. Every wood used in her construction is rare and carries the "exotic label" with pride. Thai amboina burl, Ziricote, Tasmanian Blackwood, Snakewood, Sinker Redwood, Redwood burl... As with all my guitars and no matter how much effort I put in producing top quality pictures, it is hard to convey the complete beauty of this masterpiece. Sharpei will be the treasure for a very happy concert player...

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a  flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard.  The standard fingerboard is flat.

Tasmanian Blackwood tree

Tasmanian Blackwood, timber has a density of approximately 660 kg/m3. Very strong. may range in color from straw to grey-white with clear demarcation from the heartwood. The heartwood is golden to dark brown with chocolate growth rings. The timber is generally straight grained but may be wavy or interlocked. Black striping gives it a superb look and gets it closer to its African relative.

Double top V1

The double top VARIATION 1, was developed and introduced by  Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and reached its peak in the 80s. In this Variation of the Double top, a second top is located halfway between the main top and the back. It is held in place by means of little Mahogany bridges. This top vibrates a fraction of a second after the first one creating an immense sustain and punch.
