Wonderful Cocobolo ! One of the best Tropical Species. Mostly found in Panama and throughout most Central American Countries. The set I used on this beauty possesses a deep reddish color with tones of Orange, Yellow and dark Brown and Black. The colors shift depending on how the light strikes the wood. The tap tone of the set was clear and rang like a bell and I knew I'd create a Masterpiece guitar out of it. I topped the superb back and sides with a lattice braced Alpine Spruce top. The combination is striking ! All the colors on the cocobolo seem to be enhanced and the white top speaks of elegance and sobriety. The separation of voices is tremendous. Asturias sound Heavenly and when you add to the sound the amazing ease of play, you know you are holding a true Queen in your arms.
The special cut adds a touch of master luthery to the already fabulous looking instrument. The African Padauk Bindings and the Thai Amboina burl add the extra exotic touch to an already superb instrument. She breaths harmony from an aesthetical point of view and sound wise she belongs to guitar royalty.

The lattice is a concept based on the A frame of grand pianos. The back and sides are kept rigid by means of a sturdy A shaped frame and the top is thinned as much as possible to allow the top to vibrate generously. Lattice delivers a lot of volume a tremendous clarity.

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard. The standard fingerboard is flat.

650 mm or 640 mm?
Keep the following rule at hand: If the distance between the tip of your thumb and the tip of your little finger is equal or less than 9 in. when fully stretched, use 640 mm

Italian Alpine Spruce is the highest growing tree on the planet. It grows at or above 1,800 meters where the oxygen is rarefied. This makes the grain much tighter resulting in a strong reverberating tone wood. This is the species Stradivarius used for his legendary violins.
