year air dried Brazilian Rosewood B&S, Hauser braced Cedar top Concert

Luxury marquetry on all sides, Gold plated carved tuners. Ebony armrest

Turtle shell decoration throughout. Embossed leather case included. Gorgeous!
When
this guitar was finished, I told everyone in the shop "Esta nena se
queda conmigo !" ... "this babe stays with me" ! I was simply
blown away by the sound, response and ease of play she has to offer. When
I decided to incorporate the Lute soundhole in the "Bellucci Da Vinci
series", I was thinking more in terms of aesthetics and beauty rather
than sound. A big surprise awaited fro me because not only is she gorgeous
beyond words, she puts out a sound hat is simply astonishing. As I made
some research in the lute hole fabrication and lutes in general I discovered
that lute holes are meant to augment the instrument resonance and power.
It works something like this: The highest frequencies find their way out
through the little openings in the intricate pattern of the lute rosette,
the bass and mid ranges bounce in the body and explode through the
soundports that are strategically placed and the wood of the guitar
itself moves the air around it making the sound blossom so marvelously.
I played a series of open chords at full power and she would defy me like
saying: "Is that all you got?"... her potential is practically endless
and I am speechless. I have to remind myself that I build guitars to sell
and not to grow my own "personal collection". The grain on the 120 year
old set of BRW from South Brazil is spectacular and is perfectly bookmatched.
So is the Cedar top that resonates with its peculiar and unique array of
warmth mixed with clarity and tremendous separation of voices. Playing
her is a real pleasure and you do not want to put her down... Barrios'
"Una limosna" flows so beautifully and she becomes regal
with Morricone's "Gabriel's Oboe"... One of the last masterpieces
I will be presenting this closing 2011....

The 9 braces Hauser fan is
the most thoroughly tested fan brace setup on the planet. It is the result
of many years of experimenting. It is braced on Torres 4 fan brace design.
The braces act as sound vibrations highways...they carry the vibration
of each string to a specific spot on the soundboard. If you put your fingers
on the soundboard as you play the 6th string for instance, you will feel
the upper portion of the top vibrate with more power than the rest of the
top. You will be able to feel this vibrations with your fingertips
all the way to the 4th strings. It is harder to feel the vibration caused
by the treble strings. The variations on the 9 braces fan is enormous.
Luthier taylor each fan to achieve a specific sound and match the instrument
with the rest of the woods used in the construction. Above to the left
is a 9 braces all Spruce fan. I often use a mixture of Cedar, Spruce and
Mahogany to match different wood combinations.
650 mm
or 640 mm?
Keep the following
rule at hand: If the distance between the tip of your thumb and the tip
of your little finger is equal or less than 9 in. when fully stretched,
use 640 mm

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been
around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is
true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas,
violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand
stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to
play a flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom
guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard. The standard
fingerboard is flat. |
