I have
been literally counting the hours waiting to finish this amazing Blackwood
concert guitar. For starters, she is part of a new series, "The signed
Bellucci Series", and she is also the first guitar I build using a complete
new fan brace system
that incorporates 4 different species of wood: Sinker redwood, Spruce,
Cedar and Mahogany. The sinker Redwood is the transversal strut that shortens
the trebles side to augment the power of the high registers whilst Cedar
and spruce were used on the bass side to augment the power of and resonance
of the bass line. I think I can affirm that she has the most powerful 6th
string I have ever heard. Simply amazing. The top was reduced to less than
1 mm towards the edges and just a little over 1 mm towards the bridge area
where I installed a new underbridge system (image below) that connects
the bridge with each strut in the fan brace whilst directing each frequency
to the right portion of the top. Add to this that I made a "focused" saddle
bone (see pictures) to augment the separation of voices and allow each
voice to make the top vibrate fully in its corresponding area. I participate
directly in the construction of the Signed series and I 'll try to put
out at least 2 every month.
The picture above shows the instance
when I was gluing the main Sinker Redwood transversal strut against the
Spruce top underside and under the waist strut.
This is accomplished on a concave
structure and the struts are curved so as to achieve the doming of the
top and by so doing, the necessary structural strenght is added to the
top..
As I played this babe I looked like
a kid and his new toy... I skipped lunch such was my enthusiasm while playing
her. I could not believe the sound she puts out. You would never tell she
is a 630 mm scale. Actually, this type of sound is seldom achieved on 660
mm scales. She stands out from the crowd big time ! She is tremendously
easy to play so much so that you actually feel like you are cheating in
a way. Every time I plucked the low D in the Bach Prelude, I felt
my eyes getting filled with tears. I know now that my concert instruments
are entering a new era and my guitars will occupy their place in history. |
