AFRICAN WALNUT B&S, Quadruple top (Contreras style + V1), QUILTED MAPLE top + Sinker Redwood (TOP 2), Purple heart bindings, Double soundport in upper & lower bouts, Walnut Violin tie and armrest, 640mm scale, 16" radiused Walnut fingerboard Embossed leather case included.  "The Anaconda 3"
Although Paraguay is a modern country, walking rapidly to meet up with its Northern Hemisphere colleague states, it is also true that many areas of the country are as wild as the word allows. Some areas have never been visited by humans such is the density of the sub-Tropical vegetation and the roughness of the terrain. It is in one of these areas that a few months ago a gigantic Anaconda almost killed a fisherman. If it were not for his 2 colleague friends that literally pulled him out of the twist of the snake, he would have certainly ended up in the reptile's belly. The anecdote was in everyone's mouth just a few hours after a local newspaper printed the mishap.
The thing is that ever since this historical day, every time I build with highly figured African Walnut and my children see the guitar, they immediately exclaim "La Anaconda !!" .... the truth is that this particular set seems to be made of the reptile's shin rather than the African wood species. It is amazingly similar and stunningly beautiful.
I used a fabulous Quilted Maple top to continue with the scale-looking grain of the back and proceeded to decorate her so as to bring every part together. The quadruple top construction takes the sound to an unbelievable level. I chose to play Bach well tempered Clavier Prelude I to show the amazing sustain on the bass line... it is approximately 45% longer than on a Hauser braced guitar. The playability is THE BEST ! The Prelude was easy on the left hand and this will sound like a HUGE compliment to any player who attempted to tackle this work in C Major -only a few players can play the work on the guitar  in the original key. A stunning instrument for the passionate player.

Quadruple top:

The double top VARIATION 1, was developed and introduced by  Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and reached its peak in the 80s. In this Variation of the Double top, a second top (Cedar, Image below) is located halfway between the main top and the back. This top vibrates a fraction of a second after the first one creating an immense sustain and punch.

The double top, was developed and introduced by  Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s. The word "Tapa" in Spanish translates to top in English but it refers to the back of the instrument. Therefore, Contreras doble tapa is actually a "Double back" (and sides). The Doble tapa allows the back and sides to be much more sturdy and reflect sound on the inner  walls of the body with much more intensity and speed. This makes the sound boom majestically.

Sinker logs

Sinker logs, are pulled from the bottom of lakes and rivers. Sometimes, scuba divers are needed to achieve the extraction.  Most of these logs are hundreds of years old (In one of the pictures above, you can see that the tree was cut with an hatchet). Due to a series of factors (The logs were too big and heavy to be pulled out of the rivers or the logs were caught by currents and were sucked to the bottom)  these logs were trapped by the muddy buttons of these water beds and this created like a time capsule where the wood was preserved in fantastic humidity conditions that made the wood season in a slow natural way during many centuries. Some of the logs are selected for musical instruments construction. The sound that these woods produce is unique and the grain has a beautiful coloration that changes according to the type of mud present in the water bed.

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a  flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard.  The standard fingerboard is flat.
