| African Blackwood B&S Doble
tapa(Contreras style)+Doble tapa(Contreras style) V1, QUADRUPLE
cedar top, Maple bindings, radiused ebony fingerboard, armrest &
bridge. 640mm
fret spacing. Double Soundport in upper bout, Embossed leather case included. AMAZING SOUND !!! (Commemorative label) This babe ranks among the most spectacular guitars we have ever built.. It is also one of the best sounding guitars I ever heard in my life. She's simply AMAZING. The Quadruple top was the next step in a restless search to improve and investigate in the inner makings of a concert instrument. She's a powerhouse of sound and notwithstanding the fact that she's fresh out of lacquering, she already makes you go WOW with every musical passage. This was the expression on the builder's face from the other side of the tempered glass dividing my studio and the workshop: One of awe and amazement. She pushes sound at an amazing speed and the player feels as though his fingers are much more powerful. The basses are ASTONISHING... the player feels as though a TURBO compressor is turned on every time the plucking of the basses takes place...at the same time the trebles are shining and never outdone but always in center stage. The Back prelude was the best example to show the amazing basses, separation of voices and crispiness of the melody. The internal engineering is nothing short of amazing... she's a first and as such, she'll carry a commemorative label. Making her beautiful was the other wonderful part about building this beauty. A gorgeous and lively handmade Brazilian rosette decorates the sound hole and luxury marquetry define her lines on all sides. Maple bindings to contrast with the Blackness of the African Blackwood B&S. Easy to play 640mm radiused action on and one of the best sounding instruments on the planet. AMAZING !!! |

| The Doble
tapa+doble tapa (Quadruple top) (Contreras style) was first introduced
by Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and which
reached its peak in the 80s. The word "Tapa" in Spanish translates to top
in English but it refers to the back of the instrument. Therefore, Contreras
doble tapa is actually a "Double back". Later, he worked on the variation
displayed here which he did not publicize much because he was working on
the Carlevaro model. The idea was picked up by Ramirez and I played
a Ramirez doble tapa which incorporated this system. The second cedar
top is halfway between top 1 and the back. It unites to the first top through
transversal struts and the sides. The vibration starts on this top a fraction
of a second later than on the first top and the result is a fabulous sustain
and a tremendous punch. The second set of tapas mixed with the first set
creates an AMAZING sound: full and vibrant. It is like NOTHING you
have heard before and very hard to describe on words. FABULOUS is perhaps
the best adjective I find...
