Model HFB-RT: Extremely Figured Brazilain Rosewood Back and sides Quad top. "The Ultimate Masterpiece"
I always put my best at service of my work and I take it as a precious gift when nature offers some of her best work to complement mine. This is the case with this unique masterpiece we built using the last one of 2 wonderful sets of Quilted Brazilian Rosewood. The figure on the set is unbelievable. It is like looking at a cloudy sky...you see so many shapes appear in from of your eyes ! I matched the gorgeous back and sides with a Maple burl to let mother nature continue her contribution in the making of this work of art. The Maple burl creates the effect of a wavy cardboard with different shades of brown and beige. It is quite a striking wood.  Your eyes will be filled with beauty at every inch on this amazing guitar and your heart will fill with joy....the joy that only artwork can bring. I took the utmost care in matching every part using the perfect wood to melt every part with the other.... choice of bindings, linings, rosette decorations of the bridge, violin tie, headplate and backstrip were all done so as to enhance the contiguous part. The resulting guitar is a GRAND instrument.
Playing her was the second great gift this June 25th had in store for me. The radiused neck is slim and the action low. Moving around the different positions is EASY. The sound she puts out is Paradisiac. The blend of all the woods comes together in a deep, yet sweet and clear sound that projects fantastically and fills my studio with the most beautiful music. My daughter Fatima, who is in the studio with me, cannot believe her eyes and ears. She confirms what I knew from the very start: this instrument is apiece of guitar making history ...

QUADRUPLE TOP:

The double top VARIATION 1, was developed and introduced by  Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and reached its peak in the 80s. In this Variation of the Double top, a second top (Cedar, Image below) is located halfway between the main top and the back. This top vibrates a fraction of a second after the first one creating an immense sustain and punch.

The double top, was developed and introduced by  Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and reached its peak in the 80s. The word "Tapa" in Spanish translates to top in English but it refers to the back of the instrument. Therefore, Contreras doble tapa is actually a "Double

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a  flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard.  The standard fingerboard is flat.

Sinker logsSinker logs, are pulled from the bottom of lakes and rivers. Sometimes, scuba divers are needed to achieve the extraction.  Most of these logs are hundreds of years old (In one of the pictures above, you can see that the tree was cut with an hatchet). Due to a series of factors (The logs were too big and heavy to be pulled out of the rivers or the logs were caught by currents and were sucked to the bottom)  these logs were trapped by the muddy buttons of these water beds and this created like a time capsule where the wood was preserved in fantastic humidity conditions that made the wood season in a slow natural way during many centuries. Some of the logs are selected for musical instruments construction. The sound that these woods produce is unique and the grain has a beautiful coloration that changes according to the type of mud present in the water bed.
