If you like a booming sounding instrument with a clear penetrating voice and a sustain to die for, this Purple Heart is definitely the guitar for you. As soon as she was out of lacquering, I tuned her up and I could hear her amazing voice blossom as the string winder was swiftly rolling the string on the tuner drum. An amazingly strong and profound voice stands out immediately suitable for every type of repertoire and all types of playing. As I play the Bach prelude I immediately feel the pouch in the bass that enhances each one of the musical phrases. The music gains in beauty as the different voices take their place and she starts showing her amazing capabilities in the separation of voices. The clarity of the trebles is heavenly and the sound booms with power! The set is the last one I have and it was one of my best purchases in 2010. Purple heart is rare, but the curly variety is even more rare. The Alpine Spruce top delivers the most amazing power and clarity and creates an amazing contrast of color against the deep purple of the body. I used Brazilian rosewood to make the tie, bridge, armrest and Bindings. I used Walnut Burl to add some marvelous touches to the headstock, bridge, and violin tie. The linings throughout and the under headplate are made of Maple. The triple neck reinforcement is made of Maple and Brazilian Rosewood. These are glued inside the neck with the grain pointing perpendicularly to the Mahogany neck thus acting like a truss rod. The special Cutaway is again an element that adds mastery and beauty to the instrument and allows easy access to the higher positions.
Finally, the playability on this Curly Purple heart is AMAZINGLY fast and easy. With the action at just 3 mm and a slim neck with the radiused fingerboard, playing does not get much easier that this.

Italian Alpine Spruce is the highest growing tree on the planet. It grows at or above 1,800 meters where the oxygen is rarefied. This makes the grain much tighter resulting in a strong reverberating tone wood. This is the species Stradivarius used for his legendary violins.

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard. The standard fingerboard is flat.

The lattice is a concept based on the A frame of grand pianos. The back and sides are kept rigid by means of a sturdy A shaped frame and the top is thinned as much as possible to allow the top to vibrate generously. Lattice delivers a lot of volume a tremendous clarity.
