The
lattice has proved t be one of the most efficient bracings for a
concert classical guitar. The system allows the builder to use otherwise
impossible measures during the reduction process of the top. These measure
make it possible for the top to push a lot more air and this translates
in a bigger sound. The type of sound is also unique. A much richer palette
of mid high tones becomes available to the performer. T summarize it, Willims'
sound since 1985 is a lattice braced sound. I like the sound of my lattice
better because I use wood exclusively in the construction and no synthetic
materials (carbon fiber et.) which deliver a type of "plastic overtone''
to the sound and make the expansion/contraction of the woods a much less
reliable one. Add to that that I incorporate a violin tie, and all the
anchoring work is moved to a much sturdier part of he guitar allowing the
instrument to vibrate FULLY, the top of its possibilities. (Williams
He played a Hauser -Fleta- braced in all his previous recording and concerts).

The lattice is a concept based on the A frame of grand pianos. The back and sides are kept rigid by means of a sturdy A shaped frame and the top is thinned as much as possible to allow the top to vibrate generously. As you see from the picture above, the thinned area is approximately 1.2 mm thick (VS 2-2.5 in the standard thinning techniques). Lattice delivers a lot of volume (approximately 21 dbs more) and wonderfully clear trebles.
Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The hand embossed leather case
is a work of art on its own right. Built by one of a handful of very talented
leather embossers in Latin America.
