MAGNIFICENT !
I was in Heaven as I played Cavatina on this Sensational concert cutaway. The sound goes straight to my hear from the very first note and the instrument invites the player to express the deepest feelings while her beauty and sonority fills the room with the most beautiful voice. Every note is exactly where it should be. The melody takes center stage and the bass and mid ranges accompany is a subtle yet clear way. My hands fly on the radiused 640mm scale with ease and naturally and it feels that I am cheating. I mean, she is so easy to play !! The set of Brazilian rosewood is originally from Cascavel (Rattle Snake, South Western Brazil) ad h beautiful book matched figure with coloration that goes from Dark brown to deep black. Tahitian Mother of Pearl and abalone was used to impress a Celestial blue to her mouth and accompany the celestial sound that she produces. The violin tie, armrest and bridge all work in conjunction to allow the top to vibrate fully and the sustain she possesses thanks to the Double top is simply put Amazing. |

The doble tapa, was developed and introduced by Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and reached its peak in the 80s. The word "Tapa" in Spanish translates to top in English but it refers to the back of the instrument. Therefore, Contreras doble tapa is actually a "Double back". The picture at the left shows how the second top is glued to the first one using acrylic tensors. |
Italian Alpine Spruce is the highest growing tree on the planet. It grows at or above 1,800 meters where the oxygen is rarefied. This makes the grain much tighter resulting in a strong reverberating tone wood. This is the species Stradivarius used for his legendary violins. |
 Radiused
or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard. The standard fingerboard is flat. |
 Lattice
is
a concept based on the A frame of grand pianos. The back and sides are
kept rigid by means of a sturdy A shaped frame and the top is thinned as
much as possible to allow the top to vibrate generously. Lattice delivers
a lot of volume a tremendous clarity. |
