96 years air dried Brazilian rosewood B&S, DOBLE TAPA, CONTRERAS STYLE (variation 1) Alpine Spruce top, Maple bindings, radiused ebony fingerboard, Ebony armrest & bridge.  640mm fret spacing. CUTAWAY. Embossed leather case included. AMAZING !!
This amazing DOBLE TAPA will make you love her deep, profound sound from the first pluck. The 96 years airdried set of Mato Grosso (Brazil) Brazilian rosewood I used for the back and sides is one of the oldest if not the oldest cut I ever used, A deep brown sober color and a terrific tap tone that transformed in the amazing beauty you are admiring here. I decided for the Contreras doble tapa Variation 1 and the sustain, response and beauty of sound that she produces are simply MARVELOUS!
Maple bindings, french trims and a gorgeous handmade Brazilian rosette decorate her and I used every bellucci artistry detail to bring out the beauty she has to offer from every angle. The Bach prelude seems to fly out of the body at an amazing speed, and the bass sends huge vibrations through my body. Quite a sensation. The swift 640mm scaled action makes playing easy, natural and strain free. The strings are malleable and I feel that I have total control over the volume and tone color. Small variations in the angle of attack translate into immediate changes in timbre. The possibilities that open up to interpretation are simply ENDLESS.

The Doble tapa (Contreras style) was first introduced by Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and which reached its peak in the 80s. The word "Tapa" in Spanish translates to top in English but it refers to the back of the instrument. Therefore, Contreras doble tapa is actually a "Double back". Later, he worked on the variation displayed here which he did not publicize much because he was working on the  Carlevaro model. The idea was picked up by Ramirez and I played a Ramirez doble tapa which incorporated this system.  It is a very rare
instrument and few were built because Ramirez did not want to publicize Contreras' work. I studied the Doble tapa closely because it is in the hands of my dearest teachers (Sila Godoy). He asked me to go with him when he purchased her in 1984 -I was in Madrid studying with Andres Segovia and Narciso Yepes-. I can proudly say that we finally came up with a guitar that totally eclipses the Ramirez and I am sure would make Contreras tremendously proud. The second cedar top is halfway between top 1 and the back. It unites to the first top through transversal struts and the sides. The vibration starts on this top a fraction of a second later than on the first top and the result is a fabulous sustain and a tremendous punch. Fast reaction to the player's plucking and great palette of colors.

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a  flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard.  The standard fingerboard is flat.

The hand embossed leather case is a work of art on its own right. Built by one of a handful of very talented leather embossers in Latin America. Its built following my specifications for the interior to fit Bellucci guitars like a glove. All Plush interior, key and accessories compartment. You can request an upgrade to a Cow hive front and back version.

640mm or 650 mm?
Regarding 650mm or 640 mm fingerboard fret spacing, keep the following rule at hand: If the distance between the tip of your thumb and the tip of your little finger is equal or less than 9 in. when fully stretched, use 640 mm. Adapting from one scale to the other takes no adaptation.
