My wood supplier in Brazil mailed me a picture of an extremely rare set of Brazilian rosewood. As soon as I received it, I asked him to  Fedex the set out immediately ! Below is the picture of the set I took in my studio 15 minutes after receiving it from Brazil.

Special figure Brazilian Rosewood B&S Quad top

A few days later we were already working on the project. The rosette alone took us 4 days to make... wood from 4 different cuts were used to achieve the right mix of colors and shades.  The Spalted set of Brazilian rosewood is extremely rare and delicate to work and we had to reduce it from both sides from its original 5.8 mm to the less than 2mm needed for construction.

As construction progresses we could see this amazing masterpiece come to life. With the Quad top, I knew she would sound fantastic and I was able to prove it this morning, when she was out of the lacquering booth and I played the Saltarello. The bass is very well defined and rings endlessly. The trebles and mid ranges are all perfectly lined up and bringing out notes in the 3 notes pedal bass of the piece was extremely easy. The melody is always in centersatge and it shines marvelously.

Some of the amazing extras on this babe are the Snakewood bindings, she's intuitive and very easy to play and her beauty is beyond the realm of words...

LIMITED EDITION SERIES

Double top V1
Hauser 9 braces all Spruce fan
The 9 braces Hauser fan is the most thoroughly tested fan brace setup on the planet. It is the result of many years of experimenting. It is braced on Torres 4 fan brace design. The braces act as sound vibrations highways...they carry the vibration of each string to a specific spot on the soundboard. If you put your fingers on the soundboard as you play the 6th string for instance, you will feel the upper portion of the top vibrate with more power than the rest of the top.  You will be able to feel this vibrations with your fingertips all the way to the 4th strings. It is harder to feel the vibration caused by the treble strings. The variations on the 9 braces fan is enormous. Luthier taylor each fan to achieve a specific sound and match the instrument with the rest of the woods used in the construction. Above to the left is a 9 braces all Spruce fan. I often use a mixture of Cedar, Spruce and Mahogany to match different wood combinations Image to the right.
Double top V1
The double top with the 9 braces Hauser fan, was developed and introduced by  Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and reached its peak in the 80s. In this Variation of the Double top, a second top is located halfway between the main top and the back. It is held in place by means of little Mahogany bridges located above and below the second top along the inner part of the sides (frames 1 & 3). The second top rests on the upper bridges and once it is glued on each little bridge (frame 2), a second bridge is glued on top of the preceding corresponding bridge below the second top (frame 3). This second top vibrates a fraction of a second after the first one creating an immense sustain and punch using the air moving inside the sound box and thus creating a multiplying effect of the sonorous waves.

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a  flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard.  The standard fingerboard is flat.

640mm or 650 mm?
Guitar scale lenght

Double top with Nomex core
The system is also known as Hollow top...where a aerospace material developed by Du Pont is located between 2 tops. This allows for tremendous sustain a powerful sound.
