BIG BEAUTIFUL
SOUND !!!
This is a fabulous cedar top DOBLE TAPA. I made her a cedar top to be as close as possible to Manuel Contreras II original idea. Cedar adds sweetness which is typical of the species. The doble tapa Contreras style is a wonderful system that enhances the punch, response and sustain of the sound. The violin tie allows the top to vibrate fully augmenting the palette of color and prolonging the life of the top geometrically. I used a 92 years air dried set of Mato Grosso Brazilian rosewood. The black striping in the middle is typical of the Southern Brazilian state where the soil is rich in Carbon...I matched a gorgeous geometric Russian rosette with it's matching trims and added the artistic details that make her like no other Bellucci built before and a unique piece of art to admire and behold. Every detail was treated with care and attention to make sure that the art involved in making this beauty would please both the ear and the eye of the player and his audience. Romance becomes grand with this doble tapa. The player is "invited" to make the piece more expressive and poetic than it already is and the execution on the 640mm fret scale is simply MAGNIFICENT and tehre is no strain involved in stopping the notes or changing positions on the fingerboard. Barrees are tremndously easy and stress free ! I recommend you add the upper and/or lower bout soundport(s). The guitar is engineered to work as it is but I know that the add on will enhance the sound even more. |
The Doble tapa (Contreras style) was first introduced by Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and which reached its peak in the 80s. The word "Tapa" in Spanish translates to top in English but it refers to the back of the instrument. Therefore, Contreras doble tapa is actually a "Double back". I improved on the system by using a second back of Brazilian rosewood instead of Cedar and using lighter built pine transverse struts. Due to my geographical location, Brazilian rosewood is much cheaper to get than it would have been for Contreras. That is why I can afford to offer a doble tapa made entirely with Brazilian rosewood. This delivers a great response and much sturdiness to the back and sides which in turn enhances the full vibration to the top. The result is a full sound rich with innumerable harmonics and an AMAZING presence. Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The hand embossed leather case
is a work of art on its own right. Built by one of a handful of very talented
leather embossers in Latin America.
