This is the last one of the 2 inner most sets derived from an old sinker Redwood tree I could get my hands on. The proportions of the log I understand were gigantic. The cut I received is literally from the core of the log and it preserved a reddish oxidized coloration and only streaks of the muddy brown have made it all the way to the inner wood. The result is this stunning sinker redwood top that preserves a beautiful sunset array of reds, oranges and yellows and some marvelous darker brown streaks that give it an amazing look. I combined the unique top with a beautifully bookmatched set of Brazilian Rosewood from Minas Gerais (Brazil). The set has a beautiful coloration with mainly dark brown and black grain alternated with greenish to almost yellowish grain that give the back and sides a truly amazing look. The figure of the grain seems to melt and creates a wonderful optical illusion.  The sound she produces is uniquely lyrical and I felt like Asturias was simply the perfect piece to play on this beauty. The bass is perfectly defined and the accompanying voices fall into their place perfectly. The 4th and 5th strings add a magic touch that suites Albéniz and Spanish music in general to perfection. The whole instrument vibrates as I play the notes and the response I  get to my plucking is strong and immediate. Sensational sounding masterpiece to say the least. Finally, the decoration of the sides, front and back was done using Bellucci typical attention to every detail. She is pure art and geniality wherever your eyes look.

Sinker logs

Sinker logs, are pulled from the bottom of lakes and rivers. Sometimes, scuba divers are needed to achieve the extraction.  Most of these logs are hundreds of years old (In one of the pictures above, you can see that the tree was cut with an hatchet). Due to a series of factors (The logs were too big and heavy to be pulled out of the rivers or the logs were caught by currents and were sucked to the bottom)  these logs were trapped by the muddy buttons of these water beds and this created like a time capsule where the wood was preserved in fantastic humidity conditions that made the wood season in a slow natural way during many centuries. Some of the logs are selected for musical instruments construction. The sound that these woods produce is unique and the grain has a beautiful coloration that changes according to the type of mud present in the water bed.

650 mm or 640 mm?
Keep the following rule at hand: If the distance between the tip of your thumb and the tip of your little finger is equal or less than 9 in. when fully stretched, use 640 mm

Limited Edition

The lattice is a concept based on the A frame of grand pianos. The back and sides are kept rigid by means of a sturdy A shaped frame and the top is thinned as much as possible to allow the top to vibrate generously. Lattice delivers a lot of volume a tremendous clarity.

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a  flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard.  The standard fingerboard is flat.
