The sound and
beauty of this Sinker Redwood top masterpiece make her rank as one of the
best Bellucci guitars ever built. The 100 year air dried set of Brazilian
Rosewood from Cascavel, Brazil, possessed one of the most promising tap
tones a builder can dream of and the resulting instrument is proof of that.
A deep mature sound that comes from deep in the wood fibers. The figure
she possesses is beautiful and perfectly bookmatched. The color is deep
brown with swirling streaks of black, orange and green. I topped her with
a 280 year old set of Sinker Redwood. I made the fan brace in Herman Hauser
1943 style adding of course my very own personal touches to the equation
like the mixed woods fan brace (Cedar, Mahogany and Spruce, image
below). The combination is perfect and the instrument sings majestically
and no concert hall is a match for an instrument of this caliber.
I made her a 640mm Hauser. The Air
on the G string by Bach flows marvelously and the bass creates the right
amount of punch in order to sustain the other voices that are always clear
and marvelously separated. The vibratos are natural and playing on her
is easy because the neck is slim and the action is set at 3.5mm at the
12th fret. As low as it gets ! If you were on the lookout for a master
concert guitar, this babe is definitely the guitar for you.
The 9 braces Hauser fan is
the most thoroughly tested fan brace setup on the planet. It is the result
of many years of experimenting. It is braced on Torres 4 fan brace design.
The braces act as sound vibrations highways...they carry the vibration
of each string to a specific spot on the soundboard. If you put your fingers
on the soundboard as you play the 6th string for instance, you will feel
the upper portion of the top vibrate with more power than the rest of the
top. You will be able to feel this vibrations with your fingertips
all the way to the 4th strings. It is harder to feel the vibration caused
by the treble strings. The variations on the 9 braces fan is enormous.
Luthier taylor each fan to achieve a specific sound and match the instrument
with the rest of the woods used in the construction. Above to the left
is a 9 braces all Spruce fan. I often use a mixture of Cedar, Spruce and
Mahogany to match different wood combinations. |
