A series of runs...what would be
a simple technical means in the hands of any other composer becomes a work
of art in the hands of Bach |

Analysis:
When you play and hear the section
long enough, you can literally hear the Master speak. It is like an intimate
confession .. words would simply be too much...
Use the lever created by finger
3 to present fingers 4, 2 and 1 in measure 1. Using the right set of muscles
will prevent you from producing undesired left hand noise. |

Analysis:
The long phrase continues and Bach
poses himself challenges like repeating the 3 notes sequence (marked in
green) with only a 4 notes separation. He not only gets away with it but
the 3 notes fit perfectly. |

Analysis:
The master is so good at using melodies
and runs that words would probably make them less clear. The beautiful
intervals in measure 2 marked in green and blue are fantastic elements
that the master uses to give closure to the phrase. Beethoven will grow
around such mastery and his work will eventually be the maximum expression
of such genial touches. |

Some of the best musical phrases
are presented in the following staffs. The scales are divided in groups
and the groups of notes create the most dramatic touches to the phrasing. |

notice how the fingers wrist and
arm constitute a single unit that changes position on the fingerboard according
to the notes being played. It is essential that you do not detract from
the beauty of the phrasing by making ugly left hand squeaks.... |

Bach incorporates a few jewels like
the 2 groups of notes in blue. These are like the highlights of a discourse
that is approaching the end making a clear statement. |

Analysis:
What I consider one of the most
epic variations in music history ends with the 3 blue notes at the end
of the staff. The discourse reaches the climax at the high E in measure
2. The 3 descending notes are like the final words of the statement and
next will be the beginning of a new sentence by a different character.
Use the open strings marked with
"change position" to fly to a new position on the fingerboard. |

Analysis:
The new variation makes me think
of a person that has just received a long set of instructions (previous
variation) and now tries to put them to practice. The main theme is hidden
in the high voice (red), the rhythm is set by the 2 bass notes (light
blue) |

Analysis:
The arm accompanies the phrasing
and voicings must be seen as different instruments in the orchestra. The
3 16th notes group (last group of measure 1 and the first 2 groups
of measure 2) are like 3 different persons agreeing on a given subject.
Give a different voice to each one. |
