Cocobolo has always been my "intimate favorite" wood for classical guitar construction. It produces very stable and consistent instruments and the wood is terrific from an acoustic and aesthetical point of view. Cocobolo works fantastically well with Cedar and Spruce. It has become increasingly popular especially since speculation started around Brazilian rosewood and as more and more mediocre cuts of the Brazilian species started appearing on the market. Some of the best cuts are from Costa Rica. It is becoming very rare to come by and it is only harvested in private fincas. I expect the value to soar in the near future. It is considered the most beautiful tropical wood and for a a very good reason. The professional guitarist can benefit from the glorious sound that the wood produces when used in concert instruments construction. SOUND QUALITIES: Almost identical to Brazilian rosewood, can be called Brazilian rosewood younger brother. Liquid tone and great color palette. It is strikingly beautiful and the finished instrument can get anybody stunned. The sound is mysterious, deep and clear at the same time. The grain is fabulous and it finishes to the point where you simply say WOW ! Outstanding ! RECOMMENDED FOR: All types of music. With the cutaway, it is chosen by Bossa and Jazz players A LOT.
