This magnificent Concert Cutaway is the best start for the brand new year. A fabulous Chocolate Brown set of Brazilian rosewood from Rio de Janeiro, enhanced by some great striping and a tap tone to die for, was the frame onto which I mounted the Port Orford cedar top. I matched every single part and crowned the sound hole with a splendid French rosette. The sound is WONDERFUL. Listen how deep the bass sings and how clearly the trebles carry the melody in the Bach prelude. Amazing separation of voices and a terrific response... The whole instrument vibrates sending huge vibrations through my chest. Amazing considering that these are the first notes she produces ! The 640mm radiused ebony fingerboard makes playing so much easier and every little piece of this queen is full of art and attention to detail. It's worth mentioning that the armrest, violin tie bridge, bindings and radiused fingerboard are all made in African Ebony. You can request an onboard Equalizer (Artec 4-band-Equalizer/ digital tuner -US$ 290-) and/or a soundport. A Jewel you do not want to miss. |
Port Orford Cedar possesses qualities of both Cedar and Spruce. A native tree of America is not only a fabulous wood for concert instruments but is accompanied by a series of mythical properties and carries an aura of magic and healing with it. The lattice is a concept based on the A frame of grand pianos. The back and sides are kept rigid by means of a sturdy A shaped frame and the top is thinned as much as possible to allow the top to vibrate generously. As you see from the picture above, the thinned area is approximately 1.2 mm thick (VS 2-2.5 in the standard thinning techniques). Lattice delivers a lot of volume (approximately 21 dbs more) and wonderfully clear trebles 640mm or 650 mm?
Radiused or flat fingerboard?
