The epic movie The Mission, was filmed only 200 miles from my home in Asuncion. The place is the world renowned Iguacu Falls (Cataratas del Iguacu).
Ennio Morricone is a contemporary musical giant. He possesses the musical knowledge and depth of heart and soul to make the listener shiver with some of his musical phrases. I cannot think of a world without Gabriel's Oboe... it is simply too perfect not to be a part of creation. Morricone was the man responsible for discovering the work and pass it to the rest of us to enjoy and give thanks. I often compare composers to Christopher Columbus. America had always been there... only he discovered it at a given moment in time...

Analysis:
The secret to Gabriel's Oboe is to flavor each single note and phrase. The bass lie will always be present but very soft. Use both rubato and vibrato to achieve the lyrical effect and reminisce the Oboe that carries the melody. Use the arm and shoulder to present the G at the end of the staff to minimize the stretch of finger 4.

Technique:

Notice how the elbow gets closer to the side and how the whole arm participates in placing finger 4 on the G. using the whole playing apparatus will minimize string noise and save lots of energy in the left hand.
