Brazilian Rosewood B&S Lattice Braced DOUBLE top Contreras V1. Special Cutaway Ismael is a great friend and a passionate guitar player and enthusiast. This is his second Bellucci concert guitar and he wanted to indulge in a custom order to taylor her to his liking. We exchanged several mails before coming to the final list of specs. The decision to go for a Double top in the Contreras style could not have been more sound. Ismael wanted the second top to be made in Spruce. The contrast and complementation of tones proved his decision to be excellent. The instrument possesses the best qualities of both species and a second to none sustain and punch. I used 4 different woods in the strutting work and the mixture points at achieving matching and tap tone sustainability throughout the construction. The set I used is from Minas Gerais (Brazil). It has been air drying for almost 100 years. It possesses the tiger striping that many wood enthusiasts love so much. The sound she can produces shows off in Pernambuco's Chorinho. The guitar proves to be lively with great separation of voices and a tremendous presence. The details used in the decoration are in perfect accordance with every other wood used in making this beauty. African Walnut bindings and the most delicate hand crafted marquetry made using an array of subtle yet defining colors. Ismael opted for a matte finish. I like it a lot although I am a shiny finish fan. Still, I intend to make more matte guitars because this type of finish gives the instrument a woody look that is sometimes lost with the shiny finish. Tahitian mother of pearl and abalone were used to add masterful touches to the bridge, and headstock and the exclusive and gorgeous double concentric rings rosette. The mahogany neck carries the triple decoration/reinforcement I use to add sturdiness to the neck. The 2 woods used in making the reinforcement are cross grained with respect to the grain of the mahogany. This adds more strenght. Keep in mind that adding this decoration alone adds an extra day of work to the making of the neck which s a piece of art on its own right. The tuners are high precision and hand carved and allow for precise tuning. Finally, the ebony armrest defines the left lower bout whilst allowing the tendons of the forearm to be better positioned and at the same time preventing the arm from dampening the sound of the vibrating top. . |
