Tasmanian Blackwood B&S Double top Contreras style V1. Adjustable truss rod, Thai Amboina Burl rosette and detailings on the Ebony bridge,  Tasmanian Blackwood violin tie & headplate. 16" radiused fingerboard. Double soundport in the upper  bout, 640mm fret spacing.  Embossed leather case included.  GORGEOUS !!
I am so happy to have discovered this amazingly beautiful and noble tonewood from Southern Australia. Earlier this year I had my first encounter with another Tasmanian species, Tiger Myrtle, and I was blown away. Well, apparently Tasmania is full of great surprises for me! The looks and sound of this beauty are immense. Coupling every single wood for the construction was the dream of any luthier. I matched the deep honey with black figure of the back and sides with a fabulous Maple top. I bonded the parts using the finest marquetry and African Padauk bindings. When I thought I could not do more, I added Thai Amboina burl for the detailings and covered e the truss rod reinforced neck with an radiused maple fingerboard side by 2 stripes of Tasmanian Blackwood.
The sound in the Bach prelude is phenomenal. The amazing power of the bass comes out gloriously and so do the crystal clear notes. She's tremendously expressive and this can be noted in the second part in the arpeggio on the lower strings.  I decided to mount an adjustable truss rod as a plus for those players that make the transition from Acoustic guitars or those that change the brand and type of strings on  a regular basis. She is a TRUE QUEEN !!

Radiused or flat fingerboard?
The radiused fingerboard has been around the acoustic and the electric guitar since day one. The same is true for most instruments of the Stringed family of instruments (violas, violins cellos, bass). Radiusing (image above) makes barre and left hand stopping A LOT easier. The only drawback is that you will NEVER want to play a  flat fingerboard after that. If you are having your custom guitar built, I am all pro radiusing the fingerboard.  The standard fingerboard is flat.

Tasmanian Blackwood tree

Tasmanian Blackwood, timber has a density of approximately 660 kg/m3. Very strong. may range in color from straw to grey-white with clear demarcation from the heartwood. The heartwood is golden to dark brown with chocolate growth rings. The timber is generally straight grained but may be wavy or interlocked. Black striping gives it a superb look and gets it closer to its African relative.

Double top V1

The double top VARIATION 1, was developed and introduced by  Master Luthier Manuel Contreras the II at the end of the 70s and reached its peak in the 80s. In this Variation of the Double top, a second top is located halfway between the main top and the back. It is held in place by means of little Mahogany bridges. This top vibrates a fraction of a second after the first one creating an immense sustain and punch.
