| Masterclass
or master class, is the name generally given to a special type of music
lesson where a master (from the latin magister= teacher) teaches using
a student as model to carry a musical/technical point across to the audience.
What makes a class a "Master-class", is not the piece being thought nor the student learning but the master illuminating the student(s) by solving a specific musical or technical challenge in the best possible way. Every piece ever written poses some kind of challenge. To think that Tárrega's Lagrima is easy, is to be a fool. Masterclasses are often the only opportunity for an audience to see and hear the fascinating process which normally takes place behind closed doors. It is an intimate view of a master's technique and unique way of teaching. I have access to a world audience through the internet and I analyze each music staff from both a technical and interpretative point of view. Students on their part, send comments, pictures and/or videos and I share the benefit of the feedback with the rest of the players. |
