Bent Upwards Barre

Bent Upwards Barre

Bent Upwards Barre

I find the bent barre to be very helpful when trying to stop elusive notes on the second or third strings. It comes in very handy when we are barring frets past the 7th fret while stopping fingers with finger 3. recuerdos de la Alhambra, the epic piece by the Spaniard Francisco Tárrega poses a barring scenario that calls in for a Bent Upwards Barre in staff #7. Staffs 5, 6 & 7 from Recuerdos pose one of the most challenging left hand scenarios known in the classical guitar because there is a major stretch, a trill and barring all going on at the same time. It takes a lot of very dedicated work to overcome. I recommend you use the metronome and repeat the sections for at least 3 minutes non stop. Rest and repeat twice more adding up 10 minutes of practice with the metronome. Increase the speed gradually and avoid mistakes at all costs. Notice how the Left Hand Thumb comes down the neck in order to help finger 3 make the stretch. Read more on Barre here →
