8-Strings Brazilian Rosewood B&S, Italian Spruce Top
Majestic 8-Strings Guitar. Model: 8BR-00
Greg Underwood's, custom Brazilian Rosewood Guitar is a beauty that is hard to describe in words alone. I just wished I could play some Bach right off the bat on its 8-strings powerhouse sound factory. The resonance on this Brazilian Rosewood Doubletop is one of the most astonishing guitar sounds I have ever heard. Full, generous and one only dreams to feel comfortable enough to take Baroque music to the next level. Luthery wise we took no shortcuts. We matched marquetry so as to enhance her very curve and line. Brazilian Rosewood does not cease to surprise me as a tone wood. Its glassy consistence and tap-tone do magic with the guitar sound. Honduran Mahogany with triple reinforcement was used to sculpt the neck and she carries a double Carbon Fiber truss rod to counterbalance the 8 strings pull on the neck and fingerboard. She can carry any string brand or gauge. Finally, the indented cutaway (image below) makes the access to the 14th fret much easier without detracting from the classical beauty of the instrument. This amazing guitar was built during the month of May 2021.
The indented cutaway is both very beautiful and extremely useful. It requires the highest level of luthery to be made and when it comes to playability, it allows the player to access the F# on fret 14 with amazing ease thus covering the 14 most used frets in the classical guitar.
The 9-braces Hauser fan is the result of many years of experimenting. It is based on Torres 4 fan brace design which was later developed by the German luthier Hermann Hauser. The braces act as sound vibrations highways. They carry the vibration of each string to a specific spot on the soundboard. The variations on the 9 braces fan is enormous. The Luthier taylors each fan to achieve a specific sound and match the instrument with the rest of the woods used in the construction. I often use a mixture of Cedar, Spruce and Mahogany to achieve the best separation of voices. When I add the extra transversal strut in the Rodriguez style, it enhances the sound of treble string enormously.
The Double top is an extremely powerful system to augment sustain and eliminate wolf notes. It consists of a second top (normally Cedar, Spruce or Sinker Redwood) that runs parallel to the first one halfway between the top and the back. It is the internal body construction system that better seems to show what one would expect a double top to look like. The 2 tops are connected through the sides and the transversal struts and the resulting sound is full and very powerful.
Bellucci guitars are decorated using marvelous wood marquetry to enhance all her lines and put an accent on specific parts of the construction. The marquetry requires anywhere between 35 & 90 hours of highly skilled labor to be inlayed throughout the guitar. It is made entirely by hand using knives that each luthier typically manufactures himself. It takes the guitar to unsuspected levels of beauty. The marquetry also constitutes an often critical point of release of tension which is caused by the constant expanding and contracting of the woods used in guitar construction. These are due to such factors such as humidity and ambience temperature.
The Mother of Pearl and Abalone inlay work adds amazing beauty to an
already stunning guitar. It takes innumerable hours and very specialized
hands and tools to create each inlay work. The average number of hours
invested is approximately 150 hours.
Carbon Fiber is stronger than an equivalent volume of steel. The Carbon fiber truss rod prevents neck twisting and/or bending due to the excessive tension that many modern brands of strings bring about. It adds practically no weight to the construction and will keep your neck straight for ages.
The Bellucci Triple Neck Reinforcement (Maple-Rosewood-Maple) adds beauty and resilience to the neck allowing us to build it slim and when coupled to the Carbon Fiber Truss rod or the Adjustable Truss Rod, it ensures a beautiful and straight neck for several generations no matter what string tension or brand you use.
Adding Pearl and Abalone to the Wood rosette adds a touch of beauty to one of the most spectacular parts of the guitar. The Pearl in the rosette is accompanied by a matching touch of Pearl & Abalone on the bridge
Typically, when I decorate the rosette with Pearl and Abalone, I match the work with touches of both Pearl & Abalone on the Bridge and/or on the accompanying Violin tie.
Some guitarists feel the urge to have that elusive 7th string on their guitars which would make hundreds of transcriptions a lot easier and more beautiful to play. 8 & 10 Strings configuration take te guitar to amazing levels of beauty and power.
Bellucci Guitars carry exclusive Brilliant Cut Diamonds for position markers in the upper part for the fretboard. Typically, this is a custom option.
The Anatomical Armrest is perhaps the best idea I've come up with in 2019. The armrest does not pose any pressure on the forearm tendons and muscles avoiding any type of numbing of the playing apparatus during long practice sessions. As guitar players age, the distance to the tendons is shorter and the pressure of the angled upper bout can be quite a handicap. Highly Recommended !
